The Twin Centre Senior Hericanes operate a Women's Senior BB/B Rep Team and a Women's Senior B/C Rep Team, for ages 19 and older, that compete in the Southwestern Ontario Women’s Hockey League (SOWHL).
How many games can I expect to play?
The regular season will be 18 games with games typically played on weekends. Home games are Sunday 6:30pm in St Clements for Senior B and Saturday 5:00pm in St Clements for Senior C. Both teams compete in league playoffs and participates in the OWHA Provincials tournament held in April. The number of games played is typically about 45, including exhibition, tournaments, season and provincials.
How much practice time will I have?
There will be one or two practices at the start of the season, one practice per month and two or three exhibition games during the year.
What about tournaments?
The Twin Centre Senior Hericanes enter two or three tournaments during the year as decided upon by the team as a whole.
How far will I have to drive?
The Twin Centre Senior Hericanes compete in the SOWHL. Each year, the SOWHL divisions (loops) are put together once the league knows how many teams are registered in each category (A, BB, B and C). The loop that the team would compete in will vary from year to year depending upon the number of registered teams and category selected. The SOWHL is made up of teams west of Waterloo Region, so travel could involve driving as far as Sarnia to the west, Norfolk to the south and Lucknow to the north. SOWHL Divisions for the 2019-2020 season will be finalized before the League AGM in September.
What is the cost to play?
Each year the team establishes a budget and funds its costs through a combination of player fees and sponsorships. The annual cost per player to cover TOTAL team costs (including tournaments) is approximately $650 - $675, depending upon the number of players rostered and the total team budget.
How competitive is the hockey?
The SOWHL is comprised of approximately 35 teams grouped into 4 categories (A, BB, B and C). Most teams compete in the B and C categories. There are over 500 players competing in the SOWHL across a variety of age groups and skill level. The vast majority of the players are in their mid 20's to late 30's, with prior hockey experience at OWHA Rep, OUA or College experience. Consistent with most SOWHL teams, our focus is on fair ice time for all players, having fun, and playing at a level of competitive hockey appropriate for the skill level of the team in any particular year.
