Your Twin Centre Hericane Atom LL team captured the championship at the Kyla Kowalik Memorial Tournament on the weekend of January 11-13.
The girls outscored opponents 24-5 during the round robin, beating 2 teams from Wilmot, a team from Kitchener, and tying Owen Sound. The rematch with Owen Sound for the championship was a nail-biter, with both teams tied again after regulation (just like in the round robin).
After 5 minutes of 4 on 4, the teams went to a shootout, with the Hericanes scoring twice and Owen Sound only managing to put one puck past
The Wellesley Wall.
A HUGE shout out to our parents and fans for cheering so loud and being so supportive of the girls.
Special mention to the following players...
- Lydia for potting 4 goals this weekend!
- Abby for some amazing back checking and some timely goals
- Bella for her aggressive play at both ends of the ice
- Naomi for shutting the door in the shootout
- Madi for scoring first and setting the tone in the shootout (and for winning the stick handling skills competition)
- Annabelle for chasing the puck and playing hard in front of the other team's net
- Katelyn for scoring some timely goals and for winning fastest skater in the skills competition
- Kenzie for hunting down players on the other team, stopping them from getting scoring chances
- Paige for some sweet, sweet passes on defense
- Reese for a goal (it counted in our book Reese!) and aggressive play - especially when she carried the puck up ice
What a hockey team!!!!
