Tough Ending but a Great Year!
The Hericanes had a disappointing ending losing to Nepean 4-3 in overtime but what a year it was.

The Hericanes went into the Provincials this weekend with the hope of capturing the Ontario title. On Thursday, the Hericanes played Kanata and lost 2-1. It was a tough start to the tournament as the Hericanes had the lead 1-0 on a goal from Chloe Hislop but the Kanata Rangers scored 2 goals to pull ahead. That meant that the Hericanes could not lose again or they would be done.

Later that afternoon, the Hericanes found their stride defeating West Northhumberland Wild 5-0. Taylor Storey had a wonderful game scoring 3 times while Halle Murray and Brianne Barker had single goals. The Hericanes were back.

On Saturday morning the Hericanes realized that they needed to win their final pool game to advance. They played a wonderful game against Kingston and defeated them 6-2. Mia Thompson scored 3 goals while Taylor Storey, Sonya Yusim and Halle Murray each scored one goal. This allowed the Hericanes to advance to the next round against Nepean.

Once again the Hericanes got off to a great start and found the early lead when Mia Thompson scored but Nepean continued to push ahead and scored 3 consecutive goals to lead 3-1 heading into the third period. With just over 3 minutes to play, Chloe Hislop on a mad scramble scored to close the gap to 3-2. The Hericanes then pulled their goalie and another scramble resulted in Chloe Hislop scoring to tie the game at 3-3 with 30 seconds to play. That would be how the game would end in regulation and onto overtime. Just 3 minutes in, Nepean crushed the hopes of the Hericanes when they scored to win the game and eliminate Twin Centre 4-3.

Even though it was difficult to swallow, what a year it was. The Hericanes won the Waterloo Tournament, Kitchener Tournament and their league. They then won the Lower Lakes Title. Their final record was 49-9-6. You should be proud ladies as your parents and the coaching staff are. A hard working team you are who never gave up. Well done!
