Championship Weekend Winners
The Hericanes had a fabulous weekend in capturing the coveted Championship Weekend title.

The Hericanes started off with a rocky game on Friday morning as Stoney Creek skated to a 4-1 victory. Erinn Zyta had a very strong game in net as the Sabres took it to the Hericanes. With a second game later in the day it was up to the Hericanes to bounce back. The lone goal scorer was Sonya Yusim.

Bounce back is what they did in defeating North Westhumberland 4-1. Halle Murray collected a hat trick while Sonya Yusim collected her second of the tournament. The effort and forecheck was so much stronger.

With a game on Saturday morning against North Simcoe, the Hericanes realized that the winner would advance to the Gold Medal game. Both teams came out flying. The Hericanes continued with their strengths which are being a very well balanced team and strong overall effort which allowed them to defeat North Simcoe 4-1. Erinn Zyta was again very good in net while Mia Thompson scored twice and Chloe Hislop and Sonya Yusim had single goals. The defence of Claire Schoenherr, Kate Rudy, Megan Haid and Morgan Schott were very strong throughout the game. An excited Hericane team moved onto the finals which would set-up a rematch against the Stoney Creek Sabres.

In the finals, the Hericanes were relentless as they pushed hard against a very talented Sabre team. After two periods, the score was 0-0 but that was soon broken as Chloe Hislop scored which would be the winning goal on a breakaway. Halle Murray added an insurance goal soon after to make the score 2-0. Taylor Storey had a superb match as she backchecked all game with her dazzling speed on display while Brianne Barker worked the corners well to help propel the Hericanes to victory. Erinn Zyta also had a fabulous game making a game turning save on a breakaway with 3 minutes to play. An absolute team victory and a tournament to be very proud of.
